ER-Soft was founded in 1987, while the industrial Object Oriented dPCs software concept was invented by Ronn Andreasen. ER-Soft should mainly handle the commercial aspects of the dPCs development and should of course also handle the further technical development of the concept.
The dPCs Concept is Robust Object Oriented Industrial Control and Data Communication software concept, following the ISO-OSI 7-Layer model and capable of handling multiple industrial data communication channels in parallel and in Hard-Real-Time.
The first and successful version of dPCs, was welcomed to the market. It solved problems that were yet unresolved in both the area of Industrial Control and Data Communication.
Today hundreds of industrial facilities around the world (Krones AG, Sander Hansen A / S, KHS Inc. or Miller's, among others) are using the dPCs software.
The dPCs Concept has some interesting features over traditional PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and DCS (Distributes Control System) concepts. The dPCs Concept offers a wide range of Data Processing and Data Communication Object Classes, around 300 different Object Classes, and many more in the process of development. The most interesting feature of the dPCs Object Classes is its ability of adaptation to its actual application. Each dPCs Object Class offer a set of Object Construction Parameters. There is a parameter that controls each important dimension of an object. This results in the fact that each dPCs Object can be configured for each actual application. Another important feature is that each object contains all the data regarding it’s application, which means that the user of dPCs shall not search in different places in order to access parameters related to the application, they are found with the object instance. The same is the case with Diagnostic Information, all is found with the object. This fact and feature elevates the dPCs Concept to be a High-Level concept, as it is simpler to understand and use.
The dPCs High-Level Programming Language can be expressed in text form in very simple to produce text blocks, which results in easy construction of Industrial CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tools for automatic and error free dPCs Application Programming.
dPCs was designed to be powerful in Industrial Communication, and of course, also to be powerful in Industrial Control as well. The True Hard-Real-Time performance design is a fact, and the total dPCs Concept is really very very well performing in both Application Program and Configuration design speed as well as the resulting Application Program’s performance.
Due to the well compliance of the industrial demands, dPCs was growing. The initial version of dPCs was implemented on 16-bit hardware platforms. Today dPCs has been ported to 32-bit platforms. Actually it is mostly used on a Standard Windows Computer, with the RTX Hard-Real-Time extension from IntervalZero Inc. (former VenturCom Inc., Ardence Inc.), as the Hard Real-Time Operation System option for dPCs.
The development of the different Fieldbus and Industrial Data Communication features in the dPCs Concept has led to a deep and valueable knowledge about many Industrial Data Communication systems. This knowledge is of course available in ER-Soft in order to offer to its clients.
Good Fieldbus and Industrial Data Communiction knowledge is required in Systems Integration. A System Integrator shall be able to Design or Change existing Industrial Control and Data Communication designs in order to obtain the desired functionality and performance.
System Integrators work with components as: Gateways, Bridges, Communication Modules and Cards for PC, PLC and DCS, and all related accessory products as Connectors, Cables etc...
Other important areas are the knowledges about the use of Industrial Data Communication Simulators for data communication test purposes, the use of Industrial Communication Diagnostic tools, and Analyzers (Protocol, Cable and Topology Testers and Analyzers).
