SST Embedded Network Solutions provide OEMs and
device manufacturers with tools to integrate industrial network
connectivity into their products quickly, reducing their time-to-market
and minimizing technical risk.
The Universal Communication System (UCS) is an
embedded network interface system for manufacturers of industrial
automation products. It features a selection of small, inexpensive
network modules with a common interface to the host product. Manufacturers
no longer require separate programming efforts for each network
protocol they wish to support. By simply implementing the UCS client
interface once, a manufacturer can plug and play with all industrial
networks supported by master
or slave
UCS modules.
UCS allows device manufacturers to adapt their
devices to a wide spectrum of network protocols. UCS consists of
interchangeable personality modules that "bolt-on" to
the UCS host interface designed into the device. These plug and
play modules feature full field upgradeability and provide connections
to the major industrial networks without additional programming
or hardware redesigns. Some UCS device applications include: sensors,
motion controllers, actuators and valves, scales, operator interfaces,
flow meters and drives.
User-friendly configuration software permits custom
network configurations (including conformity to device profiles)
and upload/download capabilities for complete field upgradeability
of firmware and device manufacturer specific information. No changes
to the host product are required.
UCS promises to encompass a full range of network
interfaces from all of the world's industrial markets. A lack of
support for a network is no longer an obstacle to participating
in a particular market. The UCS is more than a hardware solution!
It integrates a number of important support features and services
to ensure efficient implementation as well as application.
Developing a DeviceNet compliant slave has never
been easier! The SST DeviceNet Slave Development Kit gives your
product a significant boost by providing you with fully tested source
code and a development hardware platform.
Using
the SDK to develop a group 2 only server product
is as easy as:
Select the DeviceNet features you require
Insert application specific code to handle
the I/O data and application object
The SST DeviceNet Developer's Toolkit includes
everything you need to set up a working DeviceNet network (except
power supply). Whether you want to evaluate the performance of DeviceNet
or develop your own DeviceNet compatible device, there is no easier
way to get started.

DeviceNet Interface Cards
Two DeviceNet interface cards are included with
each toolkit. Choose from the following (both cards
must be of the same format):
